WIKIHOUSING PROJECT PRESENTATION EVENT

On February 4th, we reached a major milestone for the WikiHousing Barcelona project. With the building in its final assembly stage, we held a presentation event at the site on Passeig de l’Exposició, 38, in the Poble-sec neighborhood. The gathering served not only to showcase the progress of the construction but also to celebrate the collective effort behind this public housing initiative for young people.

The event was attended by local residents and the various stakeholders who have driven the project since its inception. The day began with a speech by the Dean of the COAC (Architects' Association of Catalonia), Guim Costa, who opened the event by welcoming the attendees. Subsequently, Andrea Sassi, from the Antonomasia agency, was in charge of introducing the speakers.

The round of speeches started with Jordi Valls, Deputy Mayor for Economy, Housing, Finance, and Tourism of Barcelona, who highlighted the city's commitment to new affordable housing models and collaboration with the cooperative and experimental sector. Following this, Carlota Pi (Holaluz) took the floor to explain the innovative energy harvesting technique integrated into the building. This solution will allow the development to focus on self-consumption and decarbonization, ensuring a minimal environmental impact throughout the building's lifespan.

Finally, David Juárez (Straddle3) concluded the session by explaining the uniqueness of this process, reminding the audience that WikiHousing is the result of a co-design and self-construction strategy started in 2021.

The building, constructed using a lightweight timber modular system, allows construction times to be reduced to just a few weeks, offering a rapid and ecological response to the housing emergency. WikiHousing is not just a four-unit building; it is a real and replicable prototype that proves that, through open industrialization and active participation, we can build more resilient and inclusive cities.

We would like to thank all the people and organizations that joined us for this event. We continue to work on the final details to make this project an inhabited reality very soon.
