new moon of jupiter

::
Astronomers confirmed, by orbital calculations, that the object designated asteroid 1999 UX18 is not an asteroid orbiting the Sun, but a previously unknown moon of Jupiter.

Designated S/1999 J1 (*International Astronomical Union Circular 7460*), the moon belongs to a subgroup of outer satellites that make complete, eccentric orbits around Jupiter at an average distance of 15 million miles (24 million kilometers) every two years.

With a diameter as small as 5 km, it would be the smallest known moon orbiting a planet in the solar system. If the discovery is confirmed, will be the 17th moon found at Jupiter.
